What colours does microcement come in?

Microcement comes in a range of factory colours, depending on which supplier we use this can be 42 colours of microcement from Forcrete or 100,000 colour shades by Frescolori.

Outside of this, we offer a colour-matching service, which means you can have any of the designer paint brands in your choice of product and finish for that ultimate level of home personalisation.

So if you’re working on a colour palette from Farrow and Ball, Little Greene. Fired Earth or Benjamin Moore, we’ve got you covered, quite literally!

Something to consider from here is the shade variance and how it turns out in real life, which is why we’d always recommend getting sample boards in advance of the project which can be approved and signed off, taken around the space in different lighting to ensure you’re happy.

Some colours will look quite different based on how they’re finished in the design coats.

Adding a sealer will also change the appearance of the microcement, so it is worth considering.

For best results we tend to use a matte sealer once our installations of microcement have been completed and fully cured, this adds extra longevity to the project, however, other finishing options are available for your microcement installation.

As we’re approved and accredited installers for these two brands they are the only Microcement products we use and will be installed in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations, both are time-tested, reputable and highly regarded. If you decide to compare our estimate against others, please be aware that not all Microcements are created equal.

What other ways can I change how my Microcement looks?

Choosing the right colour for your microcement project is one of the most important decisions you’ll make, the other key choices here will be:

  • Texture or surface structure
  • Grain size
  • Sealer

These will not only affect how the product looks but also how it feels.

Since our decorative coatings are a tactile experience it is important to see, touch and feel for yourself just how different these can be in person as digital images only show so much.

The best way to do this is to arrange a visit to our decorative finishing showroom in Amersham, which you can do here.

How else could I change the appearance of Microcement?

There are two lesser-spoken-about ways to alter the appearance of your micro cement installation in a favourable way, the first is by way of colour blending which is a technique more commonly used with our Venetian plaster installations.

To do this requires a highly skilled applicator with artistic flair and creativity, and would involve blending the colours of choice together live on-site as your installation is underway.

Not for the faint of heart, and presents a seemingly infinite array of possible colours.

The second is to add in some additional pigments or metallics, this will add a touch of glitz and glamour to any microcement installation regardless of the base colour or design coat textures.

Your options for jazzing up your microcement with metallics are:

  • Glitter pearl
  • Sparkle pearl
  • Silk silver pearl
  • Shimmer
  • Copper
  • Deep gold
  • Gold 2.5
  • Middle gold
  • Old bronze

These additives can be used wherever you like, on floors, walls, bathrooms, worktops, ceilings or furniture as per the usual microcement installation protocol.

If you’re interested in exploring these options in more detail the best thing to do is get in touch and have a chat with one of us.

How do you choose the right colour of microcement for your project?

Personal preference will always be the first place to begin your journey into the most suitable shades of Microcement for your project, as such there is no wrong or right way.

Bespoke colours are available if you really want that one-off approach or can’t find the right colour of microcement in amongst all the charts you’ve accumulated.

From our own experiences of working with designers and homeowners alike, it’s useful to have a starting point.

Where could you see yourself in a colour chart or palette? What shades do you enjoy most and why?

Are there examples online or somewhere you’ve seen in person and taken a picture?

Pinterest and Instagram are amazing resources to get you started and we have plenty of examples on both platforms.

Looking around your home or seeking inspiration from where you’ve been on holiday can also be useful.

If your microcement project forms part of a larger project such as a renovation or refurbishment, are there particular colours being used that could continue through to your microcement aspect, bringing about a sense of continuity or tying into a theme?

So many questions and food for thought, which is why we recommend getting some creative steer or input from an interior designer if you have no idea where to begin.

If you need recommendations here just let us know and we’ll happily connect you to who we think would be best suited to your needs.

What grain size of Microcement should I use and why?

With Microcement you have three choices here which are:

  • Smooth grain
  • Medium grain
  • Coarse grain

Each of these does have its place and will allow more or less movement to be visible in the design coat.

This will also impact the visual appearance and potentially the colour of your microcement slightly.

With the coarse grain product, we generally recommend using this on floors and high-impact or heavy foot traffic areas such as worktops and bathrooms.

The larger grain size creates a more robust and tough surface for added peace of mind, alongside being able to offer a higher slip rating on floors where needed.

The colour you choose can look different across the three-grain sizes so we’d always recommend checking the proposed version with a sample board before committing to doing your whole project

Since it is a hand-applied and finished product there may be some variance across the surface or project.
