Venetian plaster – or polished plaster as you may also hear it referred to – has long been a popular option for architecture, with experts believing that its origins may well stretch all the way back to Mesopotamia some 9,000 years or so ago.
Its beautiful decorative finish has won many fans over the years, but it’s not just its aesthetics that make it an excellent option for both domestic and commercial properties… it’s also incredibly strong and durable, as well as relatively easy to keep clean and maintain.
Of course, there is a bit of work involved when it comes to care, so here are a few top tips from the Signature Walls team to help you ensure you keep your walls at home or at work in tiptop condition over the years. Enjoy!
#1 Use a wax coating
Ease of maintenance is ensured if you make sure that a protective wax coating is professionally applied. This lends the plaster its waterproof qualities and helps to repel dirt, grime and grease, making cleaning even more of a breeze. This will need to be refreshed every few years to continue being effective.
#2 Be gentle in your approach
You don’t want to be rough with your Venetian plaster so always make sure you adopt a gentle approach to your cleaning schedule so as to prevent scratches, scuffs and marks. Always use a non-abrasive cloth and some mild detergent, rather than harsh chemicals.
#3 Dry completely
Once you’ve cleaned the walls down and have rinsed them down, always make sure that the surfaces are completely dry from top to bottom to help prevent damage.
#4 Maintain a constant temperature
Aim to ensure that the temperature in your living spaces doesn’t fluctuate too much, as this can lead to cracks in the plaster appearing over time.
