With a wide array of textures, styles and structures, your Venetian plaster installation can take on any number of design influences to make it truly personal for you.
Since the products are hand applied and finished, the skill of your artist or applicator will determine just what you end up with.
A good starting point for your journey to choose the right structure for your Venetian plaster surface will usually begin online, with websites and social media profiles being a great starting point.
Images will only go so far when it comes to making the right choice, and we always encourage our clients to gather images into one place so everyone can be on the same page when it comes to your design.
Once all the inspirations have been gathered, we like to look at what other factors are at play, this includes soft furnishings, furniture, fixtures, fittings and floor.
Naturally we’ll want to look at the proposed finishes and colours for the rest of the space, what paint or papers are proposed for the other areas.
It’s around this stage of the journey we recommend a visit to our decorative finishes showroom where you can examine hundreds of finishes in the lighting setups we have here, that way you can truly appreciate the variations in structure and how each product interacts with light.
Using a textured Venetian plaster
If you decide to explore the route of a coarse grain textured Venetian plaster there are many routes we could go down so we tend to categorise this product range into 4 main sub categories, which are:
- Heavily textured and coarse, giving a rustic look and feel to the Venetian plaster
- Seamless stone; using a coarse grain product to re-create the patterning and structure found in natural stone surfaces, such as slate or travertine
- Medium textured; which includes dragged Venetian plaster, layered up and scattered effect,
- Smooth/ minimal amount of texture; this could include natural stone representations, pitted effects or subtle structuring with a bit of movement
Where is it suitable to use textured Venetian plasters
You might fall in love with one of our textured Venetian plaster finishes, and quite rightly so, then go off on a tangent of where this material could end up throughout your home.
As we have a solution for any surface, our goal is to find the best solution for you.
This might mean that the structure you’re looking for cannot be used in the area you’d like it to be, if this is the case, we will let you know why and also put forward our recommended options that do work for the space.
For example decorative plasters are not suitable for floors or wet areas, but Microcement is.

Adjusting the structure of your Venetian textured plaster
If you’ve decided the sample board is close, but not quite right or the installation is under way but feels like something is not quite right, the best thing to do is discuss the concerns with whoever is on-site.
Sometimes the application technique can be adjusted to give you exactly what you’re looking for or the product might be able to change consistency to factor in the finishing touch needed that will give the right structure.
Hand applied finishes that can be tweaked or tailored to your desires.
Just note that whilst we want you to be blown away with the end result, adding more days, material and effort into the project, especially in the end stages, could result in some additional costs.
